This book was great. After my two 16 year old dogs passed away, it had been a while since I worked with a dog on house training and I was rusty! I had definitely forgotten alot. This book helped me and my husband tremendously as we adopted a couple rescue dogs and two little pups.
The training tips and the suggestions given are excellent. As pet owners, we have a responsibility to make sure the pups get out at the right times to get their business done and to understand it's not there fault when accidents happen. The time and effort you put in will pay off alot.
If you're looking for easy to follow instructions to make house training easy for you and your new pup, then this would be the book for you.
This book cuts through all the b.s. and the promises of quick-fixes, and gets down to what's REALLY involved in potty training your dog. It takes discipline on the human's part. And if that dissuades anybody from adopting a dog, so be it- dogs deserve owners who will invest the time needed. It was a quick read, and immensely funny. As a psych minor I also appreciated the psychological explanations of canine thinking. And, I can't wait to teach my dog the bell technique to go outside.
This is a fabulous, easy-to-read book that is spot on! It's been almost 15 years since I had had a puppy in the house, and frankly I had forgotten some tricks and never knew some. I did know TO crate train, but I spent the night on the floor outside her kennel the first night before I got the book. Haven't done that since! And it's not an issue at all. Don't even hear a peep out of her when we go to bed.
But the best part - we've only had 1.5 accidents in the house! When he says make a schedule of when your dog eats, etc. DO IT! Ours, fortunately, goes really right after she eats, so it made it easy! But it took one mess to figure that out. Who knew going upstairs to brush your teeth for TWO minutes was enough time to finish breakfast AND poop in the living room?
Will be keeping his other books in mind as we go through the training phases of puppyhood!!

The book was good but it does depend on the dog and the owner. We are progressing but it is not easy and you have to keep on your toes.
