Harris Channing had beautiful fair skin, hair as black as shining coal, and a strong willed spirit. He had a bright future in the New World, if he could live through the first winter but he was determined to survive as he was stubborn. In the first winters in the New World, the pilgrims were often unprepared for the harsh winter and many died. While out hunting, Harris Channing found an odd mound that had a basket of buried corn seed. He didn’t care to whom it belonged, or why it might be there, just that it meant food for him and his people. Sly Fox was the Indian that caught Harris in the act of stealing. This was the seed Sly Fox had set aside for the spring planting. He was amazed at the audacity of the young man trying to steal his corn, but because he was fascinated with his soft white skin and dark green eyes, he presented a fair trade. In payment for his debt, the pilgrim could share his body or something equally as interesting.

This short story is hardly related with the rest of the series in that it has no supernatural element at all.It is the well written encounter between a Puritan migrant to North America and a native american.
The tale only deals with their immediate attraction and stops short of any possible complication. We are told nothing of their possible future together. Unfortunately everybody knows that very serious complications for gay people and for native americans were bound to arise from the XVII century up to the 1960s: the author, probably wisely, skips over them and keeps his story short and pleasant.

Should have had a disclaimer that this is gay porn. I would not have downloaded this had I known ahead of time
I really enjoyed the short story. But note it is SHORT. Although it teased my senses with the romantic hope of love between two different people with two different cultures. What is written is wonderful but I was left with wanting more what challenges they would face, if love could outlast hate, and other relationship forming stuff. I do hope the author will try their hand at a longer different version of this story.
